Mercedes-Benz has revealed intentions foran upcoming open-top version of the legendary GelandewagenAs part of its strategy to broaden the brand's presence, tuning company Brabus has taken the lead over the manufacturer. The new Brabus XL 800 Cabrio is built upon the latest W465-generation Mercedes-AMG G63, but features a power soft top created by the tuner that includes over 500 custom parts and allows for effortless open-air driving with the push of a roof-mounted switch in approximately 20 seconds.

As a Brabus, performance has also been enhanced. The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine from the AMG model has been upgraded to deliver 788 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, providing the XL 800 with an estimated 0-60-mph acceleration time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed limited to 130 miles per hour. It is also expected to perform well off-road, thanks to Brabus-designed portal axles that raise the ground clearance to 18.9 inches, along with the 325/55/22 all-terrain tires, as well as the standard G-Class set of rugged features.

Inside, there is a wide variety of red leather trim and carbon fiber that contrasts with the light brown exterior paint... which, in turn, also features a lot of carbon fiber detailing. The spare tire that has traditionally been a feature of G-Wagens is, of course, no longer present, but the other modifications more than compensate for this loss in terms of charm.
